How Do Customers Work In DecoGro?

In DecoGro, a customer is a contact at a company. A company can have multiple contacts, but a contact can only belong to one company.

Every order must belong to a customer.

How Do I Create a New Customer?

You can create a new customer from almost any page in DecoGro. When creating a new customer, you can choose to create a new company, or to add a contact to an existing company. Here are a few ways to create a new customer:

  • When creating or editing an order, click the New Customer button next to the customer dropdown
  • On any of the home pages, click the + New button in the top right corner, then click + New Customer in the dropdown
  • From the Companies or Contacts tables, click the + New Customer above the table

 

How Do I Edit an Existing Customer?

You can edit company details by going to the companies table. Click on any column to edit it, or click on the company name to see more settings for that company.

You can edit contacts by going to the contacts table. Click on any column to edit it, or click on the contact name to see more settings for that contact.

 

How Do I Use the Companies and Contacts Tables?

The Companies and Contacts tables can be used to store information about your customers. These tables include tons of data like which contacts are in a company, a list of all of their orders, and what user owns that customer.

Just like the orders table, these tables are completely customizable. You can add columns and views to track any kind of data on both the contact level and the company level.

 

Why Have Two Separate Tables for Companies and Contacts?

DecoGro is all about organizing data in the way that works best for your business and your processes. A lot of our users work with companies and organizations that have a ton of contacts. It can become tricky to keep this organized.

 

Let's say you work with North High School and there are 10 different contacts placing orders for different departments at that school. There are 2 main ways you could set this up in DecoGro:

  • Method 1: You could create one company for North High School, and then create 10 contacts under that company.
  • Method 2: You could create 10 separate companies for each department in North High School, and add 1 contact to each company.


If you use Method 1, you can easily see all of the orders and track data for North High School as whole in the Companies Table. But you can also see all of the orders and for each specific contact and department by going to the Contacts Table.

 

If you use Method 2, there is no easy way to see all of the orders and data for North High School as a whole because the orders are split among 10 different Companies. Since each company consist of a single contact, you would see the same orders data whether you are looking at the Contacts Table or the Companies Table.

 

Our recommendation is to use Method 1, but we organized you data in a way that gives your team the freedom to choose what works best for them.
