Sort Tables

What is Sorting?

Sorting can help you stay organized by sorting your orders by dates, amounts, or any other column type. This is frequently used to sort orders by ship date so that the orders that need to ship soonest are always at the top, but you can sort orders, companies, and contacts in any way that you want! You can use sort in different ways to create views for different departments and workflows in your shop. To learn more about setting up views, Click Here.

How Do I Add a Sort?

To add a sort, just click on the sort dropdown. Then, go ahead and choose the column you want to sort by. You can also choose whether you want the sort to be ascending or descending.

Can I Sort By Any Column Type?

Yes, you can sort by any column type. Here is how sorting works for different columns types:

  • Order Column - sorted by order number
  • Date Columns - sorted in chronological order
  • Number Columns - sorted numerically (this includes dollar amount columns)
  • Status Columns - sorted in the order status are arranged (click edit labels to rearrange statuses)
  • Text Columns - sorted alphabetically (includes notes, addresses, and any custom text columns)
  • Tag Columns - sorted alphabetically
  • User Columns - sorted alphabetically
  • Contact - sorted alphabetically
  • Company - sorted alphabetically

Can I Use Multiple Sorts?

Yes, you can use multiple sorts to get very specific table views. Let's look at an example:

First, we will setup our primary sort. In this example, we are sorting our orders by Ship By Date. We select ascending because we want the earliest date at the top of the table.

Now, we still want our orders to be sorted by Ship By Date, but each day, we also want to make sure we do orders with a FIRM due date first. We will add a second sort using our custom Firm Status.

Notice, our orders still have the earlier Ship By Date on top. If multiple orders have the same Ship By Date, then the FIRM order goes to the top of those orders with the same date. You can stack as many sorts as you want.

What If I Don't Use Any Sorts?

If you don't use any sorts, your orders will not change or be sorted in any way, but you can manually sort orders by dragging and dropping them. Please note, if you add a sort, your will not be able to manually drag and drop orders without removing the sort.
